Make "Roach Food" 自製蟑螂藥劑

One part powdered (not granular) boric acid (sometimes sold as a roach-killing powder, but often available in pharmacies (for making anti-pinkeye eyewash), one part white flour, one part granulated white sugar. The sugar baits it, the flour makes it stick, and the boric acid kills them. Place in the backs of drawers and cabinets, under refrigerator, stove, etc. Expect at least 3 cycles of disappearance/reemergence of progressively smaller hordes of cockroaches, lasting about 2 weeks each. Continue using boric acid till roaches are gone.
Kids, dogs, and some other pets will eat this mixture. Boric acid is not highly toxic, but is for external use only, so place it where only the bugs can get it. It will cake hard in humid environments, so paper or foil trays may be needed.

Roof Repair 翻修厝頂

Our roofer, Mr Grover and his work crews, came to fix wind damaged storage roof. We also asked them to put on new side panels. We do our part and hope Mr. Wind will leave us alone for a while.

Last night at around 6:15PM, television station reported a tornado and strong wind warning in our area. After warning was lifted, I found these damages.

Tai Squash 臺灣菜瓜

Taiwan Squash is juicy, sweet and full of fiber. We will have a lot to harvest this year. Can't wait to enjoy them.


多汁、甜、又富有纖維的臺灣菜瓜(又叫絲瓜)今年會有很好的收成。棚架上開着無數的公、母花, 九至十月正是菜瓜期。再過幾天就有臺灣菜瓜可吃了。

We grow cantaloupe from last year's seeds. There are 8 on the vines so for.

Repair Roof 修理厝瓦

Rain, rain. Rain outside, rain inside our house. Boss Joe and helper Bill of The Grover's Roofing came to repair our roof. They did a good job, I will recommend to anyone who asks.

雨, 雨。外面落雨, 厝內漏水。今天叫格落波屋頂裝修公司來修理。喬老板和畢助手來修補十多年前他們舖蓋的屋頂。作得很不錯, 如果有人問起, 我會推薦他們。

Tea Time 下午茶

100628 Morning

This morning we went to Mimi's Cafe for beakfast.

After breakfast, we went to visit Snyder's of Hanover factory store.

Fence 籬笆

Last December, a strong wind blew down our neighbor's trees. With a chain reaction, the trees damaged to our fence. Recently, our neighbor removed tree limbs and branches on our side. We fixed the damaged portion of fence today.

去年十二月, 一陣強風吹倒鄰居的大樹, 而這些大樹壓壞我們家的籬笆。鄰居清除倒在我們這邊的樹幹和小樹枝。今天, 我們修補那一段壓垮的籬笆。

Lawn Care 整理庭院

These few days, I've been busy doing lawn care yard work:
removed dead branches,
spread weed killer on asphalt crack weeds and unwanted areas (except vegetable garden),
trimmed lawn edges and hard to mow places.


這幾天天氣好, 忙著整飾戶外庭園:
剪鋸樹木枯枝,
停車場和行車道裂縫雜草噴灑除草劑(不噴洒菜園),
修齊草坪邊緣和割草機割不到的地方。

Vegetable Garden 菜圃

These baby plants from seeds soon will be transplanted to our vegetable garden when weather permits.

Toyota Sienna 豐田思野娜

This morning, I took my Sienna Minivan to the Toyota dealership for maintenence. The technician replaced engine oil/oil filter, inspected brake/pad/disc, rotated tires, and other scheduled check. I asked the service manager about recall. He told me Sienna is good, not on the recall lists. I hope so.


今天早上開我的思野娜房車去豐田車行維修。修車師換機油/濾油網, 檢驗煞車零件, 車輪前後胎對調, 及其他該查的部份。我問經理豐田車召回修理之事。他說思野娜很好, 不在回修的名單上。但願如此。
